i was happy to hear from michael today who telephoned me. i am developing with a group a non profit model for a stress motel that will be an alternative to the medical model that will be a place for people in crisis to visit so that they won't have to be hospitalized. i have been studying choices and soteria house to help us in our development. i am a member of the mental health board of alameda county, currently receiving a stipend for the stress motel development from bestnow! which is a school that teaches consumers about the mental health system. looking forward to hearing from you all and more about your organization, and wishing you all the best success. sheldon koiles oakland, calif. tel: 510 238 9007 Submitted By: sheldon koiles

Hi from Homer! I captured Susan Phipps e-mail address & while I knew CHOICES was operating I didnt' know you had a website! Congrats!!! ~ I've let my recovery take me in different directions (not as mental health activist/advocate) I've been working part-time (15-18 hours weekly) at a women's fitness center & continue to collect social security. I have a long time partner & we built a shell of a house out of pocket & are working on loan to finish. Life is ..... good considering. That said - I am experiencing more depression since my sister-in-law's suicide last month just after Thanksgiving and wanting to find a way - an alternate way - to use my Medicare & Medicaid to get counseling services I choose but not from the local mental health center.
